Nicholas Demetry, M. D., is a holistic psychiatrist, healer and teacher. He has studied and taught the importance of spirituality for mental health and personal wellbeing for over 30 years. After receiving his Medical Degree from the Emory University School of Medicine, he studied transcultural psychiatry and mental health at the University of Hawaii. His keen interest in international travel, transcultural healing practices and spiritual wisdom traditions motivated him to work in the mental health system in Papua, New Guinea, where he observed traditional shamanic healers and the Western, scientific medical system side by side.

Committed to discovering the deeper causative factors in mental health and disease, Dr. Demetry undertook a variety of spiritual practices and a journey that led him to Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis (better known as Daskalos), a Cypriot mystic, psychologist and healer who showed him that an understanding of spirituality can further the healing process. Dr. Demetry has his private practice in Atlanta and is the director of the Etherikos Center. He offers programs and classes throughout the world.

Early on in his life experience, Dr. Demetry received the awareness that to not only survive but truly thrive in this complex modern world requires a healthy connection to the experience of transcendence. The capacity to see and experience oneself in the context of the whole of life through an elevated state of awareness. Throughout history transcendence has been achieved in a variety of ways. Some examples include ecstatic dance, inspirational music and art, deep meditative states and prayer, lucid dreaming, psycho-active botanical substances, healing rituals, and the inspiration and transcendence experienced through encounters of love compassion, kindness through selfless service given to others.

Transcendence is a natural function of the human psyche and is deeply needed in humanity in our world today to open our awareness of unity as a human family regardless of racial background, economic status, religion, or gender. Transcendence can lead humanity into the realization that we are many and yet we are one as a human family. Understanding and experiencing Transcendence is the key to deep healing of the psyche and Soul. Carl Jung often considered one of the fathers of spiritual psychology once stated in his letters the following:
“The main interest of my work is not concerned with the treatment of neurosis
but rather with the approach to the numinous. But the fact is that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy and inasmuch as you attain to the numinous experiences you are released from the curse of pathology. Even the very disease takes in a numinous character.”

Dr. Demetry has co-authored the book Awakening Love (Blue Dolphin Press), which integrates collective religious philosophy, individual spiritual experiences, and modern-day psychology as means of spiritual healing. His second book, Divine Partnership (Etherikos Press), explores the energetic dynamics of our relationships and how the power of Divine Love can bring healing and spiritual transformation within oneself and in partnership. The book teaches techniques for couples attempting to restore love and harmony in their union. The third book “The Hidden Code of Revelation, ” Volume 1 & 2, is a rich tapestry of closely interwoven topics that reveal the great archetypal power of Saint John’s mystic vision and spiritual journey for the transformation of mankind.
